Description

Antique heavy little Stanley No 3 wood plane in quite usable condition although it would look much more presentable if it was restored up a bit. In front of the back handle embossed in the metal is some dates 02 03 10 which is 1902 1903 & 1910 which I think will be patent dates. So I guess this plane probably dates somewhere 1920’s 30’s at a guess. The faults that I can see are little chip off the base of the front wooden handle by the word Stanley No 3 (photographed) and the flat steel planning face is quite good but has some light scratches in places. Overall length is 23.3 cm. The metal base is 22 cm x 5.3 cm. A nice wood grain on the handles. Please see all my pics.

  • That's a patent date for 3 February 1910 ( US date format), which makes it a type 13 or 14. I can't see one from your images, but if the front knob sits in a metal ring it's type 14, if it mounts flat on the base with no metal collar, it's a 13. Type 13 was made from 1925-28 and 14 in 1929-30. hortiphoto2 (161) • 8:00 pm, Thu, 26 Jun Hi, thanks heaps a great help, the front knob sits down on the metal base with no collar so from what you say a type 13. Many thanks. dazzaa54 (5308) • Thursday, 26 June 2025
  • Description should read a few chips off the bottom of the front knob, I have written a chip off the front knob, my photos show them all really. Seller comment Friday, 27 June 2025
