The most popular listings of the year
Race-worn gear from Kiwi sporting legends, rare soft drink cans, and the emotional rush of nostalgia have topped the list of Trade Me's most-viewed listings of 2025, revealing the diverse and generous spirit of Aotearoa.
The top listings were a mix of quirky finds, high-value memorabilia, and unique experiences, showing just what an interesting, diverse range of things Kiwi are looking at on Trade Me.
Sporting glory takes the top spot
Taking the top spot with a runaway lead was the most-viewed item on Trade Me this year: the running spikes used by teen sensation Sam Ruthe when he became the youngest person ever to run a four-minute mile. This listing from the Bay of Plenty captured the attention of sports fans across the motu, celebrating the rising star in athletics and pulling in over 41,400 views. It also fetched the highest price in the top 10, selling for $11,408.35, with the proceeds going straight to Sam’s high-performance coach, Craig Kirkwood, and his youth development group.
It wasn't the only piece of major sporting history to make the cut. Basketball legend Steven Adams' authentic, game-worn, and signed Houston Rockets Jersey was highly sought after, pulling in 13,221 views and selling for $6,160.00.
Elsewhere, the opportunity to own a piece of New Zealand cricketing history, a set of three bats signed by the White Ferns and Black Caps secured 11,676 views and sold for $4,210.00.
A blast from the past and quirky finds
Kiwi clearly love a hit of nostalgia, securing the third-place spot. Two full, unopened, 30-year-old Coca-Cola Cans gained 15,356 views and sold for $230.00. These limited-edition cans from Auckland definitely gave a few bidders a blast from the past.
Classic confectionery also made the list. Following the news that RJ's Jaffas would be discontinued, a listing for a bag of the orange chocolate balls fetched 14,451 views. It was another case of Kiwi trying to make a quick buck when their favourite food gets discontinued. While the interest was massive, the item ultimately did not get any bites.
Other unique items that captured the nation's interest included a truly unique man cave item: a bar made from a Harley Davidson Kenworth Truck, which sold for $5,571.00 after receiving 10,950 views. The final listing in the top 10 was for the Western Springs Speedway Safety Fence and Race Control Lights, which clocked 10,915 views but ultimately did not sell.
Generous Kiwi drive charity listings
Charity auctions continued to feature strongly, highlighting the generous nature of the Trade Me community.
The second most-viewed listing of 2025 was a charity listing: a spectacular Queenstown getaway for a Family of Four which raised money for St John. The package, including four nights' accommodation, flight vouchers, new winter jackets, and a scenic helicopter tour, was viewed 16,558 times, selling for $7,550.05.
Unique experiences were also a popular vehicle for giving back:
- The opportunity to Meet a rhino calf and contribute to rhinoceros’ conservation in the wild! at Auckland Zoo sold for $1,730.00 after 12,113 views.
- An exclusive Star-Studded Dinner with actors Ben Barrington & Will Hall raised $2,510.00 after attracting 11,808 views.
